Graduation Cap Raised

Public Schools are the Backbone of our Communities

I'm proud to be a public school graduate. Strong public schools are essential to strong communities. They prepare our kids for the future, anchor neighborhoods, and help ensure every child has a fair shot no matter what neighborhood they come from.

But in Iowa, public schools are under immense strain. Class sizes are growing, educators are stretched thin, and resources aren’t keeping pace with student needs. Instead of strengthening our schools, state leaders have chosen to divert public dollars away from classrooms and into unaccountable private schools.

What I'll Fight For

In the Iowa House, I will work to:

  • Fully fund public schools so districts can meet real operating and instructional costs

  • Support and retain educators through competitive pay, respect, and classroom support

  • Keep public dollars in public schools

  • Oppose political censorship and interference that undermines academic freedom and local control

  • Invest in student supports, including mental health resources and special education services

  • Treat education as a long-term community investment, not a budget line to be cut or politicized

Education policy should be driven by what helps students learn and communities thrive, not by ideological agendas. I’ll stand with students, parents, educators, and local school leaders to strengthen Iowa’s public schools.
