Safe, Stable, and Affordable Housing is Foundational
Housing is the foundation of stability. When people have a safe, affordable place to live, kids do better in school, workers can keep their jobs, and communities stay strong. But across Iowa, housing costs are rising faster than wages, and too many families are being pushed to the edge.
This isn’t happening by accident. It’s the result of policy choices by our government that have failed to keep up with the real needs of our communities.
Safe housing should not be a privilege.
What I'll Fight For
In the Iowa House, I will work to:
-
Expand the supply of affordable housing by supporting smart community-driven solutions
-
Invest in eviction prevention as an economically superior option to dealing with the homelessness crisis
-
Bring policies around habitability, eviction, and retaliation into the 21st century
-
Support first-time homebuyers with tax credits and help more Iowans build long-term stability
-
Modernize eligibility for affordable housing programs to reflect today’s economic realities, so working families facing rising rents and housing insecurity aren’t locked out of help due to outdated thresholds
-
Coordinate housing policy with workforce, healthcare, and education efforts, recognizing that housing stability strengthens every system
Housing policy should be local and focused on results. Communities know how to take care of each other, they just need the resources. I’ll work with cities, counties, nonprofits, and developers to deliver solutions that meet communities where they are.
